Art Education at St. Wenceslaus Catholic School is a balance of opportunities to learn about art and through art, fostering creative thinking, idea development, and strong technical skills from Pre K through 8th grade. Students engage in hands-on experiences using drawing, painting, clay, and mixed media while building confidence, problem solving skills, and visual communication.
The art curriculum also enhances our Catholic faith through interactions, discussions, and often in subject matter. Students are learning to love and appreciate art so they can become well rounded people who will have the ability to navigate the visual world with creativity and intelligence. Art class encourages reflection, collaboration, and an appreciation of beauty as part of God’s creation.
A highlight of the program is working with a wide variety of art media, including hands-on clay projects supported by our on site kiln. Students enjoy multifaceted units using clay, paints, inks, and tools that are introduced and practiced safely and effectively. Having access to a kiln allows students to experience the full ceramic process from forming and firing to glazing and finished pieces.
The impact of the art program is seen in student engagement, growth, and lasting outcomes. Students become creators and problem solvers as they explore materials, work together, and learn perseverance and responsibility. Through art, students develop creativity, confidence, and a deeper sense of faith.
