Several years ago we began to explore "The Generations of Faith Project," an innovative approach to parish faith formation involving all generations in learning and growing together through the life of the church.
The idea is to develop lifelong, intergenerational, Church-based faith formation focused on the educative power of the church community: the feasts and seasons of the Church Year, sacraments and liturgy, prayer and spirituality, justice and service, proclamation of the Word, and community life.
The Generations of Faith approach promotes participation of all ages and generations in the shared experiences of church life (events) as a focus for learning.
Past events, which began the Fall of 2003, focused on the theme of discipleship and included " A Musical Celebration of Discipleship" that featured the gifts and talents of our children's Vacation Bible School participants, piano solos, vocal solos, duets, a middle school choir, adult choirs, and 4 hand bell choirs just to name a few. It was an evening to celebrate our faith in song.
In 2004 we adopted the theme of Evangelization, focusing on how we are each changed by the power of Christ's word and sacraments.
Our Parish Mission Retreat in 2005 continued the theme and was a week of spiritual renewal and an opportunity for people of all ages and generations to gather in prayer and fellowship. This event was planned, prepared and implemented by The Total Education Committee as well as other parishioners who volunteered their time and talents to create a wonderful week of spiritual growth opportunities.
2006--2007 saw our involvement as a Parish in a year long celebration of faith and heritage, culminating in the Anniversary Bash on June 24th.
"Faith, then, comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through preaching Christ." (Romans 10:17)
